Website Privacy Notice

Last updated: October 19, 2026

This notice covers our websites: benbowlabs.com, timealoud.com and octothorpeapp.com, and the domains that redirect to them. Our apps are covered by the Benbow Labs Privacy Policy, and so is any app or purchase offered on our websites.

Our websites are static information sites. They have no contact form, no newsletter or signup, no accounts and no analytics. They tell you about us and our apps, and give you our email address, [email protected].

The controller is Mapleworx Services Inc., carrying on business as Benbow Labs, 350 Bay Street, Suite 1300B, Toronto, Ontario M5H 2S6, Canada.

This page is available in English and French.

1. If you just read our websites

We don't ask you for any personal information. We don't run analytics on our websites, we don't use advertising, and we don't profile visitors.

A website can't send you a page without your device's IP address. Two providers handle your visit:

  • Cloudflare runs the DNS for our websites and the network that serves and protects them. Your request passes through Cloudflare, so it handles your IP address and the details of your request, such as the page you asked for and your browser's type, to deliver the page and to block attacks.
  • OVHcloud provides the servers in Canada that our websites run on. Our web server records which pages are requested and when, to keep the websites running, but not visitors' IP addresses. To keep any one visitor from overloading a website, the server also counts recent requests from each IP address. It keeps that count in memory only and never writes it down, and deletes it after 30 minutes without a request from that address, or when the server restarts.

Two of the domains that redirect to our websites, benbowlabs.ca and timealoud.ca, work differently: CanSpace runs their DNS, and a visit to one of them goes straight to our servers at OVHcloud, without passing through Cloudflare. Our server sends you on to the website, and the rest of this notice applies there.

2. Cookies

Our websites set no cookies of their own, and use no other tracking technology.

Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie in your browser if it needs to check whether traffic is suspicious, for example to tell a person from an automated attack. It is used only for that, and not for advertising, analytics or tracking you across sites. A strictly necessary cookie doesn't need your consent, so there is no cookie banner.

If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent before setting any non-essential cookie, and update this notice first.

3. If you email us

If you write to us at [email protected], our Privacy Policy covers your email: section 7 says what we keep, why and for how long, and section 8 names our email provider.

4. New features

If we add a website, or add features to one, such as a newsletter, we'll update this notice before it goes live.

5. Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what we hold about you and how we use it;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • give you a copy in a portable format;
  • stop using it.

Email [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days.

Depending on where you live you may have additional rights — under Quebec's Law 25, the EU or UK GDPR, or a US state privacy law. We extend the rights above to everyone regardless of where you live. If you're in the EU or UK and want to object to processing or lodge a complaint, you can also contact your local data protection authority.

6. Where your information goes

Our websites run on servers in Canada. Cloudflare, which serves and protects them, is based in the United States, and its network handles your request in one of the countries where it operates, usually the one nearest you. Information handled outside Canada may be subject to local law, including lawful access by that country's authorities. We rely on contractual protections for those transfers. Canada is recognised by the European Commission as providing adequate protection for personal information handled by commercial organisations subject to Canadian federal privacy law.

7. Security, and how little we keep

We protect what we hold with access controls, encryption in transit, and by collecting as little as possible in the first place. There are no accounts on our websites, and no passwords to steal.

If a breach of security affecting your personal information puts you at real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the regulators, as the law requires. We notify you directly where we have a way to contact you. Where we don't, or where notifying you directly isn't practical, we publish a notice on benbowlabs.com. We keep a record of every incident affecting personal information, whatever its size.

8. Children

Our websites aren't directed at children and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.

9. Changes

We'll update this notice when our practices change; the date at the top reflects the current version. If you'd like a previous version, email us and we'll send it.

10. Contact and complaints

Our Privacy Officer, who is also our person in charge of the protection of personal information for Quebec's Law 25, is reachable at [email protected].

Not satisfied with our answer? You can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca), to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca) if you live in Quebec, or to your local data protection authority in the EU or UK.
